On December 9th, 2022 Nicole’s world stopped when after advocating for herself, she was called by an emergency room doctor to inform her they were pretty positive looking at her labs that she had leukemia. She was sent immediately to the Kaiser hospital in Clackamas for testing that would confirm she had a horrible diagnosis of AML (acute myeloid leukemia). Nicole had to be hospitalized for chemo and bone marrow punches that confirmed the diagnosis. Nicole spent Christmas and the majority of January in the hospital, away from her family, receiving treatments for the disease while awaiting a match for a bone marrow transplant. From December until now, she has spent multiple months in the hospital doing treatments for leukemia, as well as multiple bone marrow punches, a lot of bloodwork and blood & platelet transfusions. The doctors were able to find a match and she is now awaiting the transplant that has been rescheduled multiple times due to either Nicole’s health or the donor not being available. Now there has been a new date for Nicole to be admitted for the bone marrow transplant on September 18th 2023. The transplant process is 2-4 weeks in the hospital, then 100 days in what has to be 20 miles or less from OHSU for the doctors to be able to watch her closely until she is in good enough health to come back home to her family in Salem, hoping to be home for Christmas with family, in remission. Nicole is a mom of two beautiful kids that have been trying to get used to this “new normal” life of being ill. Her family is asking for help financially with gas to get to and from Portland, food money as well as to pay the bills that don’t stop when life does. Anything truly helps and Nicole’s family is very grateful for anything anyone can donate.
Thank you,
God Bless!
