I would like to share my story.
My name is Gisel Lopez. I am a 45-year-old woman from Colombia. Three years ago, I arrived in the United States with my son, and I am deeply grateful to be here with him. This journey has been one of constant learning and growth.
For the past two years, I have been living with severe pain in my neck, back, hip, and now also in my feet. I have followed all medical recommendations, including chiropractic care, acupuncture, physical therapy, massages, lifestyle changes, and weight loss. I have also explored additional options on my own, without finding a lasting solution.
For a long time, I did not have a clear diagnosis. After multiple requests and appeals with my insurance—who initially stated that I did not need it—I was finally able to get an MRI. The results confirmed what my body had been experiencing: I have three herniated discs in my spine.
Some days I can manage, but other days the pain is so intense that I am unable to walk.
During this process, I have found some things that have helped me manage certain symptoms. For example, a drink I brought from Colombia has helped reduce the pain in my knees. However, this has not addressed the root cause of my condition, which are the herniated discs in my spine.
The healthcare process has been slow and challenging. At this point, the option being offered is surgery, but before making such a major decision, I want to pursue a non-surgical treatment.
After evaluating different options, I made the decision to begin a private treatment near my home, with an initial duration of two months. Although the consultations are more costly, this option allows me to stay close to home and be with my son, which is very important to me during this process.
For this reason, I am opening this space with respect and dignity, to receive support during this stage of my life.
My intention is to regain my quality of life: to walk without pain, sleep peacefully, return to work, and continue building a life with my son, who is my greatest motivation.
I currently live in San Jose, California, and I am not working due to my condition. Even so, I remain grounded in faith and certainty that I will overcome this.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story
