**Help Feed and Care for the Horses of Pinion Ridge Ranch (Metaphorse)**
Nestled in the breathtaking embrace of Spring Canyon in Montrose, Colorado, a remarkable alchemy of healing unfolds every day. At **Metaphorse**, the motto is simple yet profound: “We rescue horses who rescue people.”
Here, rescued horses and hurting humans embark on journeys of mutual healing, creating stories of hope, connection, and transformation. Founded in 2014 by **Jody Nixon**, a certified instructor in Equine-Facilitated Learning and Human Development, Metaphorse has become a sanctuary where brokenness turns into wholeness, and silent understanding often speaks louder than words.
About Jody Nixon
Founder & Executive Director **Jody Nixon** has been a passionate advocate for horses for as long as she can remember. Horses have supported her throughout her own life, offering growth and healing even before she realized it consciously.
* Certified to teach children to ride since 1987
* Discovered her true passion in 2013 through Equine Energy Exchanges, inspired by the Eponaquest Method of Linda Kohanov
* Advanced Eponaquest International Instructor
* Constellation Coach and Infinite Possibilities Coach
Jody believes that horses speak in metaphors, it’s our job to listen. She facilitates sessions where clients connect deeply with horses, leading to meaningful, enlightening experiences that support personal growth, healing, and resilience.
Although Jody has applied for grants to sustain and expand Metaphorse’s programs, **many of the applications were not awarded**. That leaves a critical gap in funding that grassroots support must now fill.
The Need
With 29 horses, many of them senior rescues—our feed bill alone is staggering:
* **5 large bales of hay each week** (~$500)
* **3 bags of oats** (~$60)
* **3 bags of alfalfa cubes** (~$42)
That means **$600 every single week just for feed**, not including veterinary care, supplements, or maintenance. Over the course of a year, feed costs alone surpass **$31,000**.
On top of that, our **tractor is currently broken**, making it difficult to move and distribute hay. At the moment, we’re borrowing a neighbor’s tractor, but this is not sustainable. Part of our fundraising goal will help repair or replace this essential equipment so we can keep our herd cared for safely and efficiently.
Our Goal
This year, we are seeking **$40,000 in funding and donations** to:
* Cover a year’s worth of feed and supplements
* Repair or replace the ranch tractor
* Ensure veterinary and farrier care for the herd
* Sustain our programs serving veterans, survivors of domestic violence, and youth
How You Can Help
Every contribution makes a difference:
* $20 = one bag of oats
* $42 = a week’s supply of alfalfa cubes
* $100 = one large bale of hay
* $600 = feed for the entire herd for a week
Your support doesn’t just feed horses—it fuels hope, resilience, and healing for people in our community. Together, we can ensure these horses live with dignity, safety, and love while continuing to change lives.
Please give today, share our story, and be part of the circle of healing at Metaphorse / Pinion Ridge Ranch.
