Wispa Saved my Son’s Life – please help with palliative care

Update from Micah

Thank you to everyone who helped keep Wispa as happy and comfortable as I could. Over the weekend Wispa suddenly got worse. Despite this he was very brave and we spent his last day at the beach where from just looking at him you could never really know anything other than his nose was wrong. Wispa was my assistance dog for ~7 years and everywhere we went he made people smile and he connected me to an outside world that I didn’t think was possible. Me and my family are really grateful for the help from raising the money. Thank you so much, it allowed us to keep Wispa as happy and comfortable until the time came where he fell asleep in my arms.

Update: Wispa is Still with Us

We are glad to say that Wispa is still with us, though we don’t know for how long. Micah is making sure that every moment counts, giving Wispa the best life possible.

We want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has donated so far – your kindness and generosity mean the world to us. Thanks to you, we have raised £1,200, but with vet bills now exceeding this amount, we would be incredibly grateful if you could continue to share our fundraiser. Every share helps us keep Wispa as comfortable as possible for the time he has left.

Thank you for being part of Wispa’s journey.

Heartbreaking Update – Palliative Care for Wispa

We have now received Wispa's cytology results, and his cancer is too aggressive and too advanced to be able to do anything other than make his remaining days more comfortable. We do not know how long he has, but it could be any time between a few weeks and a couple of months. Delivering the palliative care that he deserves is going to cost in the region of £97 twice a week (for painkilling patches) and then for his euthanasia and cremation when his quality of life becomes such that it is kindest to let him go. We are absolutely heartbroken.

Wispa is more than just a pet. He is Micah’s best friend, his anchor, his independence, and his security. Losing Wispa will be losing a part of Micah’s world – a world he has fought so hard to rebuild.

If you have donated but would rather not contribute due to the change in cirumstances, please let me know and I will refund your donation. I have estimated the cost going forward, based on what the vet has said. Any donations made that are not used for Wispa's care will be returned.

Please Help Us Give Wispa Comfort in His Final Days

We are asking for your support to help fund Wispa’s palliative care so he can spend his remaining time pain-free and surrounded by love. Every donation, no matter how small, will help us ensure he gets the care he deserves in his final days. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser – it would mean the world to us.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any help you can provide. Wispa has saved Micah – now we need to give Wispa the kindness and dignity he deserves in his final days.

Help Save Wispa – My Son’s Lifeline and Autism Assistance Dog

Hi, my name is Alex, and I’m reaching out with a heartfelt plea for help. My son, Micah, is 25 years old and autistic. His journey has been incredibly difficult, but one constant source of comfort and support has been Wispa – his autism assistance dog.

Wispa has been life-changing for Micah, enabling him to step outside his comfort zone, access the world, and gain independence. Without Wispa, Micah wouldn’t have been able to leave the house, go into shops, or engage with the community. He wouldn’t have been able to achieve his level 3 qualifications and attend university. Most importantly, without Wispa, Micah might not be here today.

Micah was diagnosed with autism at 18, after years of struggling without the support he needed. The lack of appropriate services for young adults meant that his mental health suffered severely. He battled deep despair, and in one devastating year, he attempted suicide over 20 times. Wispa was his lifeline – his unconditional companion who brought him back from the brink and gave him a reason to keep going.

Wispa Needs Life-Saving Surgery

In February, Wispa was diagnosed with a mast cell tumour. The treatment cost nearly £3,000, which we managed to cover with insurance. Today we have been told that the treatment he received did not work, and now Wispa needs to have his nose removed. The insurance has reached its limit, and this vital operation is estimated to cost up to £4,000 – an amount we simply cannot afford on our own.

This situation is even harder because we have had to ask for help for Wispa before. In 2023, he suddenly became paralyzed after suffering a slipped disc, and thanks to the generosity of others, he was able to receive the treatment he needed. After that, we tried to increase his insurance coverage, but the cost was prohibitive. We were in the process of renewing his insurance to provide better coverage, but we had to wait for the renewal date. Devastatingly, Wispa became ill just a few weeks before that renewal, and now, due to his condition, no insurance provider will cover him. This just adds to the heartache, as we never imagined we would be in this position again.

Wispa is more than just a pet. He is Micah’s best friend, his anchor, his independence, and his security. Losing Wispa would be losing a part of Micah’s world – a world he has fought so hard to rebuild.

Please Help Us Give Wispa the Chance to Live

We are asking for your support to help fund Wispa’s surgery so he can continue being the wonderful, loving dog that changed Micah’s life. Every donation, no matter how small, brings us closer to giving Wispa the care he needs. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser – it would mean the world to us.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any help you can provide. Wispa has saved Micah – now we need to save Wispa.

With gratitude,Alex & Micah
