Winterset High School Dance team
The Winterset High School Dance team is making their first ever trip to Nationals in Texas! This year has brought a lot of success to Winterset. The team has 7 members. Lexi Weeks-Captain, Ellie Thomas, Maddi Bosier, Kayle Eivins, Emiliegh Weir, Rachel Brown and Jillian Jacobsen. Coached by Dana Harper and Assistant Coach Mariah Bowman.
The 2016/2017 team started their bid to Nationals by first making a clean sweep at ISDTA State Competition held in December. There are over 250 schools in attendance making this the largest state competition in our nation. The team entered 3 routines and placed 1st in all 3, this is called a triple crown and was only achieved by 3 schools. The team then went on to compete at Regionals held in January. Again taking 3 routines they swept with overall high score to receive the invitation to compete at Nationals held March 24th-25th in Texas!
These girls are very dedicated to their team, their community and to their academics. They strive to set a good example for peers and for future athletes that look up to them! These girls put a tremendous amount of hard work into each new dance season. They dedicate their time and effort to make Winterset proud!
They begin practice in June each year and continue all the way through competition season-sometimes into March! They practice 4-6 days a week 2 hours most days but up to 6 hours of practice leading up to the big day!! (Watch the award winning Pom routine, video attached, performed at state in December)
These girls work hard to fundraise each season with car washes, kiddie camps, concession stands, bake sales and other events. These funds are used to help pay for costumes, choreography and travel which can be quite a trial for a team this small. This Go Fund Me account will truly make their dreams come true!! A bid to Nationals is a once in a lifetime opportunity for this small and mighty WHS team! No matter the size of your donation it is greatly appreciated and we will make you proud!
The amount we are asking for will pay for transportation, entry into the event, accomodations, and food while there.
The team began in 1994 and since has brought the 1st place state title home to WHS 14 times!!! Also this is the teams second year earning a "Triple Crown" at the state competition. The team additionally has earned many other 2nd, and 3rd place titles to be proud of!
