Our cherished friend Jonathan Hanson has been sober for five years and has diligently worked towards living his best life. He's actively involved with his church and a Certified Recovery Mentor at Celebrate Recovery meetings, which are vital to his sobriety. Jon is also currently pursuing a bachelor's degree at Portland State University. For those of you who know him, you know how far he's come. He moved to Sandy, Oregon, not too long ago after living and being a house manager and mentor in a sober living house for several years.
After recently venturing out to live independently in his own peaceful sanctuary in the trees, Jon fell victim to the storm on Friday night, posing a significant setback. His reliable little car, which served as an essential means of transportation for him, was crushed by a 100ft tree. Thankfully, Jon is OK, and his new home didn't suffer any damage. Jon heavily relies on his car, a crucial element in maintaining his sustained success. Whether commuting to school, attending meetings, church, medical appointments at the VA, or simply getting groceries, his car is essential.
Jon took great pride in his well-maintained car, recently outfitting it with new snow tires. However, being an older model, the car was covered only by liability insurance. The car was purchased for $1,800 in 2022. Jon estimates he spent an additional $4,000-$5,000 on repairs, updates, and new snow tires in order to make his car safe and reliable. If he is lucky, Jon could get the bluebook value for his car from the landlord's insurance policy, which is approximately $1,800, leaving a large gap between what he potentially could receive for his damaged vehicle and the price of a comparable replacement vehicle.
Obtaining a reliable replacement vehicle would greatly contribute to Jon's sustained success and continued journey with sobriety. We have decided to start this Go-Fund-Me page on behalf of Jon, and every contribution made will be applied directly toward the purchase of his replacement vehicle. Any amount contributed is greatly appreciated. Please feel free to share this information with any friends, family, or acquaintances who may be interested in helping Jon.
