Winter hay and shelters
Donation protected
Hi all. The animals pictured live at Lemon's Hope Sanctuary in Brattleboro, Vermont, a small, privately owned farm-animal sanctuary. The sanctuary houses three sheep, two goats, and two miniature horses, who have been rehomed here for various reasons. The refuge is also home to an assortment of small animals. Lemon, the goat, had been attacked by a dog and lost use of one of her front legs. Hope, a babydoll sheep, had been separated from her mother at birth and could not be reintegrated into her herd. The owners of two other sheep moved and didn't want their pets to become meat. The horses were rescued from a kill pen and were adopted by me, the sanctuary owner.
We initiated a winter hay fundraiser after one of the horses experienced frequent bouts of colic and much of our winter supply of hay got moldy from being baled when still damp. While all those needs were addressed and adjustments made for the mini so that the colic episodes now seem to be a thing of the past (knock wood), we are again asking for assistance with hay and other necessities for the animals. Last winter we lost one of our shelters. We purchased a shelter kit to build a new shelter, and had a used shelter donated and transported to the farm. With the wet summer we've had, hay continues to be an issue. Microdonations are very much appreciated.
