My name is Silvia and I am teaming up with my daughter’s long time best friend, Jessie, to help her family in a devastating tragedy.
Tiffany is a Marine veteran. She is married to Dave who is an Air Force veteran. They have 2 boys, Oliver, who is 2 and Elliott, who is 7 months.
On November 6th Tiffany and Dave lost their home and all theirs, and the boys belongings in a house fire.
Tiffany’s story:
We have been unpacking things to put away in the cabinets after we got the new appliances. We just kept throwing the empty boxes out back. Around 2:50 I was standing in the dining room starting to unpack another box when I heard a weird crackle noise. I looked at the back door and noticed a very orange color. I opened the door and got ambushed by flames. I tried swatting in the fire hoping to knock the boxes away from the house. I noticed it was too big and too hot so I screamed “daddy”. He ran out the door and started kicking the boxes away from the house when he turned and realized that the back side of the house was consumed in fire and the attic was already engulfed. He screamed for me to get the boys out of the house. I ran inside and snatched Elliott out of his bassinet and Oliver out of his crib. Dave started screaming asking where our fire extinguishers were and I told him in the closet. I ran the babies across the street to the neighbors and then ran back to the house to grab the other fire extinguisher…. It was defective and did not work. I later found the one my husband grabbed was also defective and spray for less than 3 seconds before quitting. My dad told me to get out but I kept screaming call 911 and find Biscuit. All of our animals were taken out by our neighbors but we couldn’t find Biscuit. The neighbor ran over and started spraying the house with the water house. My dad grabbed ours and started spraying too but it was too late. The entire attic and roof was engulfed and smoke was barreling out. I kept trying to find a way to run back inside to find Biscuit but I couldn’t see and couldn’t breath. When EMS arrived I kept screaming to please find my dog. It is still undetermined what the exact cause of the fire was but it’s heavily leaning towards electrical. All I could do is stand and watch smoke barrel out from the top of the roof and then see the roof go up in complete flames. We lost absolutely everything. But I am so thankful for our neighbors for helping us get our boys and our animals out.
Biscuit:
After the fire was somewhat contained they performed a search and rescue. Biscuit had been inside for an hour or more. I was just standing there in disbelief, shaken, in shock, when everyone pointed towards the house. Biscuit was being carried out by a fireman and he was ALIVE. The scream I let out is heart wrenching. He was checked out by EMS and highly recommended to get a bath asap. He was soaked and completely covered in soot. They found him hiding in our closet in some clothes. Our room took the most damage. I wanted to be absolutely sure he was okay so I took him to the ER vet. We were very hopeful and in high spirits. His O2 levels were good. But when they ran blood work he had an alarming amount of CO2 in his blood. I had to make a decision either to let him go or perform CPR. I just kept begging for them to do whatever they needed to save my dog. Last night was critical and it was unsure if he would make it through the night….. BUT HE DID. I had to pick him up at the ER vet and get him to his normal vet where he stayed all day for fluids and observation. He was allowed to come home this evening and will have to return in the morning for another day of fluids and monitoring. As long as everything stays stable then he will be completely out of the woods. For tonight he is home and getting extra snuggles and love.
My daughter and her husband have work so hard to provide a great life for their boys. This tragedy is a nightmare that I wish we could all wake up from. I stood with my daughter as she watched her house crumble to the ground and she screamed in despair. The important thing is she got her babies out, the 2 legged and the 4 legged.
Everything list is just material and can be replaced. But as we all know the material is not so easy to replace and though insurance will eventually (maybe) cover it they are having to foot a lot of money upfront. They are staying with Tiffany’s father and have had to get bottles, diapers, formula, clothes, beds, the essentials.
I am hoping that we can raise money for them to help with some of the money and being able to get what they need. Their home is a total loss and will be temporarily staying with her dad for a year at least. Not to mention the increasing vet bill to keep Biscuit alive, he is around $2k right now. The emergency vet holds Biscuit overnight and he goes to his primary vet during the day. The emergency vet is charging but the primary vet wants no payment.
If you can help in anyway we thank you from the bottoms of our hearts. Times are so very hard for everyone and even a share or a prayer is substantial for this wonderful family.
Tiffany is the one who has always stepped up and went above and beyond to help anyone and everyone in need. We have told her it’s our turn to take care of her.
Thank you so much and truly, truly we appreciate you.
