Black Mesa Solidarity Network is raising funds to support elders and families of Big Mountain / Black Mesa as they resist relocation and sustain traditional Dineh lifeways in the face of the devastating effects of mining and colonial land theft.

Black Mesa Solidarity Network maintains an ongoing emergency fund to materially support this resistance. Support goes to families resisting PL 93-531 as requested and by their direction. Funds are needed for the following expenses:

Firewood

Gas/Propane

Medical Transport

Traditional Medicine

Food delivery and distribution

Vehicle repairs and gas money

Roof, fence and structure repairs/supplies

Chainsaw supplies

Medical expenses

Tractor work for road repairs or preparing fields for planting

Water-related infrastructure

Hay + small animal feed

Sheep and horse herd health (rams, antibiotics, vet bills, formula)

Bereavement costs

After over a century of violent disruptions to Indigenous life and lifeways, the 1974 Navajo-Hopi Land Settlement Act created an arbitrary boundary delineating so-called Hopi Partition Lands and Navajo Partition Lands. These lines had very little to do with ancestral or contemporary land use and occupation, reflecting instead the colonial government’s collusion with coal and other extraction corporations to access ‘resources,’ steal and contaminate water and pollute land and air.

Nearly 50 years later, Dineh elders and families are still resisting relocation pressures coming from various government entities. They continue to maintain and practice their right to remain on their ancestral lands, which covers over 900,000 acres and 20 Dineh communities. Pressures to relocate take many forms, including livestock impoundments, threats and intimidation from law enforcement and government agencies, total infrastructure abandonment, unfulfilled promises regarding various forms of support, and many others.

Black Mesa Solidarity Network is a decentralized all-volunteer collective from around Turtle Island. We work with and respond directly to Dineh living within the territories resisting relocation laws. All funds raised will go directly to families resisting in the form of cash and/or needed supplies.
