Winter aid for widows and children in Afghanistan

Donation protected
Hi everyone,

We are currently trying to raise money for earthquake victims in Herat and Baghdis that took place in October 2023. Over 3000 people are presumed dead and over 40 villages have been affected. The second earthquake hit the region with a magnitude of 6.2 on 10October 2023, making the dire situation even worse. There are no news coverage of the situation due to ongoing conflicts everywhere else. So, Please donate what you can so we can help as many victims as we can.

Also, accepting donations for weekly bread distribution as well as sponsored families.

My name is Sarah and I am an Afghan American. Although I have never seen Afghanistan, it is where my roots lie and I consider it to be my home as much as I do the US. The past couple of months have been difficult to watch as the events in Afghanistan have unfolded. I’ve watched my home be destroyed while the world stands by and tells 38 million people to trust a terrorist organization that is largely responsible for ruining their country and their lives. To watch the Taliban commit genocide against Panjshiris and Hazaras, to see them brutally beat and torture women and journalists, and watch them kill Afghan army soldiers and US allies has been heartbreaking to say the least. Our new generation that have worked so hard these past 20 years have now lost all of their hopes and dreams in a blink of an eye.

So here is what I and everyone else wanting to help can do. I am trying to raise money for an Afghan non-profit organization run by a 23 years old woman, named Aisha. Due to the Taliban takeover, she is not allowed to continue her studies and this charity has become her full time job. She, along with her family members, go on missions to distribute aids, go to hospitals and visit widows that she is supporting or helping. 100% of the money donated to this organization goes to the people that are in need. Besides transportation, there is no other expense that the organization has. This is a reputable organization that works and has worked with other NGOs on the ground.

Winter has already began in Kabul. There are displaced families that have been living outside in the freezing cold in homemade tents from their clothes and whatever else they could find. Currently, there are over 500,000 people that are internally displaced. In one year’s time (2022), 97% of Afghans will be living in poverty according to Amnesty International. It has been 76 days since the Taliban takeover and most NGOs, medical staff, activists, and doctors have left the country. This means that most of the hospitals, clinics, shelters, and government facilities have closed. The whole country is facing a humanitarian crisis. Over 3.2 million children are malnourished (WFP) and 14 million people have nothing to eat. There is no government, so there is no stable economy which means there are no jobs, no pension, nor any form of labor for people to earn income from. Over 23 million people are facing acute food insecurity this winter. The UN started countdown to catastrophe 6 days ago (according to Guardian). Afghanistan has become the largest humanitarian crisis, surprising Syria, Sudan, Yemen and Ethiopia. Due to the ban on women/girls’ basic rights, most widowed women who had been the breadwinner in the family are now stuck at home with no source of income to pay the bills or to even feed their children.

While protesting, being upset at foreign interference, holding traitors within the Afghan government accountable, and raising awareness have been helpful, the change it would bring isn't immediate. The Afghans have been here before as this is a repeat of 1996. 40 years later, we are still in the same situation- continuation of war and the devastation that come with it. I am not sure if anything will change or get better. I am hopeful, but there is no light right now.

What I'd like to do is raise some funds so that I can provide 50+ families of widows that are in dire need of help, with coal and wood for 3 months (winter), so that they are able to survive this winter.
While I understand this is only a band aid for the devastation that Afghanistan is facing, providing aid to help some people survive for the next couple months is something that can and should be done.
