This past week has been a whirlwind of vet visits, sleepless nights, and emotional ups and downs as we fought to figure out what was making our dog so sick.
It all began Tuesday night with a sudden and intense vomiting episode—7 to 8 times within a few hours. Concerned, we rushed him to our primary vet first thing Wednesday morning. At the time, things seemed manageable: he wasn’t vomiting anymore, and the symptoms pointed to a simple upset stomach. We were given a few options—bloodwork, a pancreatitis test, and X-rays—and decided to monitor him at home under our vet’s guidance.
By Thursday, his condition hadn’t improved, so we returned for more tests. While pancreatitis was ruled out, the bloodwork showed his gut was fighting off an infection. He was prescribed antibiotics, anti-nausea meds, and a probiotic, with hopes that his appetite and energy would return. He vomited once more, but nothing alarming yet.
To be safe, we returned Friday for X-rays. They showed a large amount of trapped gas, which was reviewed by a specialist. No clear obstruction was visible, so he was treated with IV fluids and meds. Miraculously, he came home acting like his old self—rolling around and full of energy. We thought we were in the clear.
But Saturday morning, he took a turn for the worse—drooling from nausea, restless, and unable to get comfortable. He began projectile vomiting uncontrollably. We rushed him to the emergency vet, where they immediately gave him fluids to address his extreme dehydration. A few hours later, we were back again—this time for an emergency ultrasound.
That’s when we got the answer we’d been fearing: a small intestinal obstruction. The only option was immediate surgery.
Our boy is now out of surgery, recovering and hooked up to IVs. He’s stable, but still in the hospital where he’ll need to stay for several days under close observation. As you can imagine, the costs have been piling up quickly—from multiple vet visits to emergency care and now hospitalization and surgery.
We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support from friends, family, and even our newfound TikTok dog parent community. Your messages and encouragement mean the world to us.
If you’re in a position to help us during this difficult time, we would be so thankful. Every little bit helps us keep him comfortable, cared for, and on the road to a full recovery.
