Winston's (age 3) Brain Tumor & Ependymoma Journey

Donation protected
We are Lindsay and Heather, aunts to Winston Cusworth (age 3), and are reaching out to all of you with heavy hearts on behalf of Shawn and Liz Cusworth.

Recently, life has dealt a devastating blow to this loving family. On January 3, 2024 Winston was admitted to Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland, Oregon after doctors discovered a massive brain tumor. Winston underwent brain surgery to have the tumor removed; however, a stroke leading up to the removal appears to have caused significant brain damage. He is still being monitored and cared for in a comatose state at Doernbecher Children's Hospital. Recent tests revealed that the tumor is classified as Ependymoma, an aggressive and rare type of brain tumor.

Our hearts hurt for Winston and his parents at this time. Winston is a highly gifted, tender and deeply loved boy who loves monster trucks, ABC's and jokes. The family has been comforted by the love, support and prayers that have been offered from around the world.

Much is still being learned about in regards to Winston's recovery and what that may look like. He will likely be at Doernbecher Children's Hospital for a good length of time while doctors, nurses and Winston's parents watch him closely and do extensive occupational therapy, physical therapy and testing to understand the best path going forward for Winston. Recent tests showed some progress in brain activity, which is encouraging.

As you can imagine, this has taken a severe toll on Shawn and Liz, who have been by Winston's side day and night at the hospital. Shawn will be taking a leave from work and Liz is working reduced hours to care for their precious son. The financial burden and lost income on this family is immense, both in the short-term and the long-term.

This is where your generous contribution can make an immediate and lasting impact. Your donation will help Shawn and Liz with ongoing medical costs, as well as day-to-day living expenses.

We humbly ask you to share Winston's story with your network and consider making a donation, no matter how big or small. Every little bit counts. Shawn, Liz and Winston have a long and challenging road ahead, and they need our help now more than ever.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your compassion, prayers, generosity, and support for Winston and his family. Together, we can make a difference in their lives during this incredibly difficult time.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Lindsay Sydenham and Heather Drake
