Winston’s Cancer Treatment
Donation protected
I’m setting up this fundraiser on behalf of my sister, Celeste, and her best friend, Winston who was recently diagnosed with cancer. Winston is the definition of a very good boy. He is a 2-year-old golden retriever and may just be the happiest dog you could ever have the privilege of meeting. He is loving, compassionate, goofy, and full of joy.
Winston started showing symptoms of an illness on February 22: lethargy, not eating, vomiting, and losing weight at a rapid pace. By the following week (Feb. 27), he was seen by multiple veterinarians, underwent exploratory surgery, and was referred to an oncologist in Mandeville, LA.
Eventually, the results of a biopsy done by the LSU Vet School indicated that Winston has B-cell lymphoma. This is a cancer that affects the lymph nodes which are distributed throughout his body making it very hard for him to be active or eat properly. With a lowered immune defense, he has also contracted strep. At this time, we are helping Winston recover from the surgery and strep with the prescribed antibiotics and lots of love as we await the first round of chemotherapy set to take place on March 13.
The prognosis for the lymphoma is that, with effective chemotherapy, his cancer will go into remission and Winston will be able to return to his routine and live a normal life, adding time that he otherwise doesn't have without treatment.
This sudden diagnosis has sent a shock through our family and placed a hole in our hearts. While this disease is not uncommon in golden retrievers, it is not common for such a young dog. Winston is a fighter and he has more life to live, runs to take, treats to eat, and kisses to give.
We hope to get Winston the best treatment possible, which is never inexpensive. Donations will be used to help cover medical bills already incurred, future treatment, and travel expenses for said treatment.
If you can, please consider contributing to this GoFundMe to help Winston in his fight to remission. If you cannot help monetarily, that’s okay too. Resharing can be just as much help! Thank you for taking the time to read.
