What a very scary 3 days we have had
As a few of you may know on Monday Winnie started showing alarming symptoms:
Loss of appetite
Refusing water
Difficulties moving back legs
And no control of her bowel
The vets admitted her to hospital Monday morning and started very strong pain medication and monitored her closely, I had a call back Monday evening saying she wasn't really responding to the pain medication and they were now upping her dose, she was also now losing more movement in her right leg
I was then called on Tuesday morning and was told she's still in pain so they were upping her medication again and her right leg has next to no movement and her left leg was now delayed with movement, she finally started eating and also had control of her bowels again but she was NOT responding well to being in a cage, they believe her symptoms are related to IVDD. They called me at lunch time and said they would like to change her medication to strong painkillers that we could come home with and would contact me a little later for her hopefully to be discharged. I was called and we collected her yesterday at 6pm with a variety of painkillers.
Since being home we haven't had much improvement but she seems comfortable and not in pain, she is now going to the toilet and her appetite has increased slightly (especially for sausages) she also has finally had her first poo since being home (I'm super proud!) But still not much movement
I have also been enquiring about her MRI and her possible surgery which the price was honestly shocking, I have been quoted a fixed cost of £3,500 with Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists for
1 hour consultation
Basic Bloods
MRI
Hospital stay
Anaesthetic
Which all money we be going towards this
Once the MRI reveals 100% what has caused the problem I will then be quoted for surgery which I'm genuinely concerned about!
I have kindly been helped in such a short amount of time in so many ways and have had the most humble people coming together to make Winnies future a little more comfortable and normal again!
I have been donated:
Crates
Puppy pads
Extra bowls
Toys
Harnesses to aid her
A pram
And the same group of people have also started raising funds to help Winnie with her upcoming plans for her MRI and possible surgery!
I REFUSE to give up on her! I've been asked this question frequently by friends, family and even veterinarians on how far am I willing to take this? And as long as my baby isn't in pain I'm willing to give everything I have for her to live the life she's truly deserves! She's our baby, she's family, she's what makes our house a home and I will protect and save her in every way I possibly can! In my eyes there is no other option other than getting Winnie on the mend and having her living her life to the full!
She's still young, she's only 2 (nearly 3), she came into our lives at 11 months old and we adopted her on the 19th of April 2022. That day for me marked the day our family was completed, I think I needed her more than she needed me and even tho we adopted her, she saved me, she came into my life when I needed her the most and she now NEEDS ME! When I signed her papers I signed to always protect and look after her and that is what I forever plan to do.
I've made a promise that she will grow old with us and enjoy life has life as she did previously!
I also never really asked for help myself and feel ashamed to have to even ask but if anyone can help in any way, shape or form to just help this process go a little faster for her I would massively appreciate it!!
