Winking Through It; Help My Parents With Chloe’s Vet Bills
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Jake. I’m setting this GoFundMe up for my parents, Christina and Jason, for the family dog, Chloe. On February 26th, we were at my parents' house for my mom’s birthday, and there was a terrible accident with the dogs. Chloe is a 5-year-old pug, and she was outside in the yard playing with our two larger dogs as she always does. She ended up getting tripped and trampled by one or both of the two other dogs, and I heard her yipping pretty loud. I rushed outside to see the two other dogs standing around her, acting concerned. I scooped up Chloe, and her right eyeball was popped out of the socket, and she was bleeding profusely from her mouth and nose. My dad and I jumped into the car and rushed to an emergency vet in town and got there at 6 pm. Immediately, the vets calmed our concerns about her being on the brink of death and let us know they were very confident that this was just a horrible accident and not an act of aggression from our other dogs. Then she let us know she was most likely going to lose her eye. After being examined by the doctor, she told us that 100% Chloe was going to need surgery to remove her eye, and it wasn’t salvageable. The price was quoted at just over $3,500 and needed to be paid in full immediately. Unfortunately, neither I nor my parents are in the position to pay the vet bill without accruing a mountain of debt. After a bunch of back and forth, we were lucky enough to have a family friend foot the bill for us so Chloe could get her surgery on the condition that it gets paid back. We left Chloe at the vet for an overnight stay and were anxious to pick her up in the morning. Well, when it rains, it pours because at about 1 am, my dad received a call from the vet letting him know that they discovered Chloe also had a fractured jaw that needed to be wired together to ensure it heals, and also, unfortunately, had 7 teeth that needed to be extracted. The teeth extraction was due to her having periodontal disease on some of her teeth, and they wanted to give her mouth the absolute best chance to heal and to not get infected because of a preexisting mouth condition. That additional procedure totaled out to over $1,200, and my dad ended up putting that portion on his credit card. All said and done, the vet bills totaled out to $4,808.54. While Chloe was able to go home and is on the road to recovery, my family is staring blankly at a mountain of debt, and after all this, my parents just deserve a break. I’m hoping that this GoFundMe and our friends' and family's generosity will gain some traction and help give them a bit of a sigh of relief. Chloe is my mom’s baby; she gets walked in a pink stroller, gets dressed up in cute clothes, sleeps in their bed up on her pillow, and is just spoiled all around. Seeing my mom so distraught and worried for Chloe was heartbreaking, and I don’t need her worrying about anything else. I’d be forever grateful if anyone would help my mom and dad pay off these outstanding vet bills so they can just be relieved they still have their baby.
