Canada30x30 – Cycling Coast to Coast across Canada
Your donation supports our efforts to empower people to take action for the planet.
Our Journey: Canada30x30 is a 7,000km, 30-day cycling challenge with a purpose. Along our journey from Atlantic to Pacific, we will feature 30 of Canada’s biodiversity hotspots. We start in Halifax on July 1 and intend to reach Vancouver 30 days later.
Our Vision: We hope to inspire Canadians to protect, conserve, restore, and rewild 30% of Canada’s land and water by 2030, to the benefit of people and all species.
Background: 30x30 is Canada’s core ambition in tackling the climate and biodiversity crises. Canada has committed to protect 30% of its land and water by 2030. Current levels of protection are 13.6% of land, including freshwater and 14.7% of marine areas. To achieve 30% within merely five years, we need to act fast.
Science: We have teamed up with a handful of scientists from the University of Alberta and University of British Columbia, to conduct a study on human resilience. Bridging sports psychology, physiology, and nutrition, we are collecting a unique dataset to advance our understanding of plant-based ultra-endurance athletes.
Call for Action: We believe that creative storytelling approaches are needed to mainstream the United Nations 30x30 biodiversity target (adopted at the COP 15 in Montreal in 2022) to the Canadian public; and sport provides an unparalleled platform.
