On October 1, Windie received the news no one wants to hear. After 5 weeks of debilitating pain, multiple ER visits, 3 CT scans, 2 scopes, 3 EKGs , and 4 chest X-rays, we finally have an answer, “It’s malignant.” Windie is scheduled to have an open biopsy on Wednesday, October 9. She meets with her oncologist a week later to finally have a diagnosis and discuss the next plan of action.
Windie is a beloved music teacher at Stockwell Place Elementary but has not been able to work for the last 3 weeks. Her spleen and pancreas are swollen, causing excruciating pain. Her doctor will not allow her to go back to work at this time. Windie is a contracted employee so if she doesn’t work, she doesn’t get paid. The absence of her pay plus mounting doctor bills (copays, meds, etc) are a stress that she does not need on top of this devastating news she received this week.
