Hi, my name is Wilson (yes we have the same name and that's one of the many things that connects us) and I am fundraising for my dad. In early 2022, my dad became sick with a standard winter illness except he wasn't recovering as quickly as normal. This caused him to get bloodwork drawn which revealed abnormalities. 3 bone marrow biopsies later and my dad was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS)/preleukemia. Every month he has endured a minimum of 10 chemo injections that maintained his cancer enough to qualify for a bone marrow transplant. He has a match and is beginning the long, intense process of having a bone marrow transplant and recovering.
My dad is one of the hardest-working people I have ever met in my life. He and my mom decided to move to Florida to provide a better life for my brother and me. He decided to become a semi-driver to provide for our family. This meant limited time at home but he was able to faithfully provide for our family over the years all while being there to support us in the big moments of our lives. My dad is a simple man: he works, provides, and wants to spend time with his family. That is his life, that is where his heart and soul are. As long as I can remember, my dad has always said that his true happiness comes from seeing his boys, and now grandkids, happy and being able to do the things that he was never able to do. My dad is one of those people to always extend a helping hand and would give the shirt off his back to those that need it. He is always smiling and positive even when life doesn't seem to be giving him a reason to be. Throughout this entire process, he has kept the faith and remained positive.
These funds will be used to cover initial medical bills, hotel stays (my dad is required to stay in the area of his transplant for 2 months following his month-long hospital stay), and normal living expenses (my mom will be staying with him his entire stay and need food, toiletries, etc.).
