Update: Wilma gained her wings on November 21, 2019.
I am a single mother of two daughters, who is now in a position of caretaker for my mother. Prior to the recent incidents I worked a day job and ran a small bake shop part-time. I have exhausted all paid time off from my job, and am now on unpaid leave through FMLA. While I am grateful to qualify to be off to be with my mother at this stage in her illness, I do have personal expenses that have to be covered. This campaign would be used to assist with personal bills while out of work and help to keep overhead covered at the shop in my absence.
My mother, Wilma Rucker, was diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic Breast Cancer in November 2017. She has been fighting this battle consistently from day one with every ounce of her being. Earlier this year we found out that the cancer metastasized to her liver, and most recently discovered it is present in her brain. She experienced two falls due to unknown lesions affecting her balance. Mom was sent to the hospital for scans of her liver and her brain to see if the cancer had progressed. Shortly after being admitted she suffered a Grand Mal seizure. She spent several days in Neuro ICU. She regained her speech and had been making progress until most recently. Mom has undergone several chemotherapy treatments throughout these two years, and opted to try radiation for her brain in late October of this year. We are unsure of how well the radiation worked. We were told beforehand that the process could reduce the size of the many lesions and lessen the symptoms but would not cure or remove the cancer.
After spending 13 days in the hospital, she made great progress and was transferred to a Physical Therapy Rehab facility to regain her strength. She has continued fighting the fight every single day. Within recent days she has become increasingly weak, unable to currently walk, hardly talks and barely move her body on her own.
I need to be by her side and assist with communicating her wishes for her care at this stage to the healthcare providers. Every donation made would be greatly appreciated and be put to use for necessary expenses.
No amount is too small.
