Hello! I have been given the AWESOME opportunity to join the Apprentice Company at the Williamstown Theatre Festival this summer! To take advantage of this super cool opportunity, I need all of the support that I can get.
What is the Apprentice Company at the Williamstown Theatre Festival?
"The WTF Apprentice Program is a hands-on fully immersive introduction to the world of professional theatre during the summer season of the Tony Award-winning Williamstown Theatre Festival" (*).
From June 16 through August 20th I will be working with and observing a community of established theatre professionals through master classes and numerous WTF jobs.
“Past apprentices have worked with artists such as Lewis Black, Elizabeth Banks, Patricia Clarkson, Bradley Cooper, John Doyle, Renée Fleming, Ginnifer Goodwin, Michael Greif, John Guare, Jessica Hecht, Bill Irwin, Allison Janney, Justin Long, Joe Mantello, Theresa Rebeck, Chita Rivera, Sam Rockwell, Emmy Rossum, Campbell Scott, and Marisa Tomei” (*).
I will also have the opportunity to audition for Festival productions, and get involved with projects funded by the Festival and directed by the Festival Directing Corps.
Why do I want to join the Apprentice Company at WTF?
“There’s two sort of old adages when you go into show business. If you want to work on the business side of the business, you work at the William Morris mailroom. When you want to work in the theater, on stage or in design, you start out as an apprentice at the Williamstown Theatre Festival.”
-Kate Burton
Since graduating last May from the drama program at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, I have been working my little tail off to have a career as an artist. Following a fulfilling first year out of conservatory pursuing this, joining the Apprentice Company at WTF feels like an exciting and smart next step. It is a place that attracts people, like me, who love and value GREAT works of theater. Artists who I admire and am working to follow in the footsteps of, have worked, and continue to work, at WTF. This program will give me experiences and connections that could be a BIG hand towards furthering my career and achieving my dreams. :).
How much does this program cost and what will the funds be going towards?
“The approximate total cost of the WTF Apprentice Program is $3,950. This cost represents housing for the program’s full term..., a full meal plan provided by Williams College Dining Services, and all of the professional development workshops” (*).
Because of the intensity of the the schedule, apprentices are required to invest in the room and board that the program provides. It makes keeping up with the apprenticeship schedule possible.
When are the funds due by?
$2,750 is due by May 8th. The remaining $1,200 is due by June 1st.
Could I pay for this myself?
With my present income, I am living paycheck to paycheck. Since moving to NYC, my bank account has never contained $3,950 nor even $2,750. My income, on average, has been about $500 per week. I use this to pay for rent, a metrocard, food, CHEAP theater tickets, affordable and quality classes, occasional museum visits, and audition supplies (headshots, resumes, hair gel, etc.). With the given time constraints, I am incapable of paying for this program on my own. Whilst the program may be outside of my budget, the experience, I believe, would be priceless. :). ;).
Thank you so much for taking the time to check out my Go Fund Me page! Any donation is GREATLY appreciated. Please pass this page along to anyone you believe may be willing to give anything, or post it to your social media! Godspeed on all of your adventures!
Best,
Will
