Welcome !
Will is one of the most interesting people we know, he has played an essential role in our lives as soon as he was in them. He is an unappoligetic dreamer. His talent for igniting the spark, fueling wild and seemingly impossible ideas into a reality is infectious.
Will grows ideas, gardens and friendships.
September 16th, feeling his balance was off and something was wrong William Singletary drove himself to Alameda Hospital, he had suffered a Stroke.
The stroke affects both sides of Will's brain. Some pathways that his brain used to control basic movements were lost and need to be recreated with physical therapy.
He can stand with help but lacks the balance and motor control needed to take steps and walk. He is unable to use his left arm making self care difficult. Will is in a wheel chair. He has difficulty finding words when he speaks and gets frustrated trying to use his iPad or phone.
His doctors and physical therapist feel he can regain much of what he's lost If he can remain focused and dedicated to physical therapy. The phisycal therapy is often painful and must be repeated again and again until the movements become second nature, until new pathways are created in his brain. Recovery is time critical. Delays increase difficulty and cement temporary defecits into permanent disabilities.
Will's pride won't allow him to ask for your help, but he needs it desperately.
He is currently in a skilled nursing facility that provides care for patients that are not seeking physical therapy, insurance will pay only for his bed. It is up to Will to continue with the movement to recovery. I know we can help to provide a place better suited for success.
Let us create an environment of healing, not fear or debt, of recovery, positivity and
patience for him.
Lets use this place for sharing information, stories, pictures and actions of support.
So that our friend William Singletary may continue to rock every f***ing bit of the known, and unknown universe, may continue to inspire us in the same, fierce, dangerous and meticulous style we have grown to love !!!
Close your eyes, imagine him dancing.
Looking forward,
we will keep you updated as Will continues to recover.
