Willow’s Roots (GRS)

About me:

I’m a transgender woman, and have been undergoing HRT for over three years. I’ve also undergone a few procedures (like laser hair removal, electrolysis, and speech therapy) already. I work full time, have health insurance, and have a savings account set up to try getting the funds to undergo Gender Reassignment Surgery (GRS).

What I plan:

As early as Spring 2025 I will begin the physical process of GRS. This means I will need to have Electrolysis to prepare the area, make travel/lodging arrangements, and undergo the surgery itself.

      - Orchiectomy

A bit about the cost:

The cost of this is difficult to pin down exactly, but I am working on it.

My current insurance has an in-network deductible of $500, with an 80% coverage after that is hit until I reach my maximum out of pocket of $9,450. So for this procedure the maximum I would pay is $9,950 (because the deductible doesn’t count toward the out of pocket).

It’s important to note that surgical procedures can have complications and other issues that come up. Plus insurance companies have a history of making things difficult. There’s a lot to biological things that makes them really hard to pin to a black/white easy format, which is what accounting systems prefer.

 Cost of each procedure:

       - $ 210

       - $500 (Deductible)

       - $19,500 * 20% = $3,900

       - $500 (Deductible) 

       - $4,500 * 20% = $900

This puts the surgical procedure cost at: $6,010.

There’s other things to go into this as well. 

1.8% Tax on surgeries:

3 nights hotel for caregiver ($130/night +3%tax):

$401.70

Mileage (240 miles each way at 25mpg):

$31.40 each way 

Food for myself and caregiver ($75/day for 4 days):

$300

Services cost:

6882.68

Absolute grand total for this whole operation:

$7,128.59

I’m sure that there are things I have forgotten/left out (like lost wages during recovery)or will come up (like updated tax rates). I’m doing my best to not have that happen, but I’m still human. So to account for this I’ve set the goal to a round $7,500.
