Hi I’m Willow and I am scheduled for a hysterectomy mid-June 2026. An MRI in early 2025 revealed 5 large fibroids growing in and around my uterus, stretching it to double its size.
Fibroids are non-cancerous tumors that can enlarge the uterus and cause chronic pain and abnormal heavy bleeding. My periods became unbearable and made life and work hard to maintain. Due to my frequent heavy periods, I was severely iron deficient and had to have multiple iron infusions and an emergency blood transfusion over the last year.
After multiple failed interventions and feeling like this would always be my reality, I finally found a care team that would listen to me. This surgery being scheduled feels like a dream come true. At the same time, I know that the nature of my anatomy will cause the recovery to be tougher than most.
This is a life changing procedure for me, and I am extremely hopeful for a healthier pain free future. However, the process comes with a lot of uncertainty. During my recovery, I will be unable to work for 6-8 weeks, which means I need help covering essential expenses like rent, groceries, and pet care for my girl Khaleesi.
Having this support will allow me to focus on healing and not worry about falling behind on basic needs. Living with chronic pain has been challenging to say the least, and this surgery is my chance for a new beginning.
I am so grateful for any support and encouragement throughout this process. Thank you to my community for getting me through this.
