Willow's Birthday Dream- renewal of creation
Donation protected
Tomorrow (May 6th), I have a birthday.
In my family, I was trained to accept low key celebrations as ‘normal’, but I’m ready to try something different this year.
(Technically, I have no blood family that celebrates my birthday with me, so my friends who are my family have taught me how to feel loved and appreciated! )
I personally believe we should ALWAYS celebrate birthdays, our own, and those of who we love! It is a gift to still be alive and to survive and thrive, and it's a milestone to mark another trip around the sun.
I'm creating this fundraiser so I may have the means to relaunch my arts and related businesses. Having spent nearly 30 years in the arts, I am aware that some elements/tools of my trade need some resetting, like a beautiful jewel in a new ring.
I have done so much on my journey, and likely haven't spent enough time 'tooting my horn'. The funds will help me re-establish presenting my vision, goals, accomplishments and creative endeavors, hopefully under one new, involved and complete website/presence.
It is not easy for me to launch this fundraiser, especially knowing others are need during a global pandemic. But I also know what I provide as a teacher, creative, dancer, singer, artist, poet, photographer and activist is of worth- as shared to me by my students, colleagues and fellow artists.
I look at this as an opportunity to develop a personal comfort level with fundraising for myself, and asking for help. In turn, it reasserts the universal truth: THE ARTS MATTER.
Funds will go towards:
*Building a new website.
(This will be a whole overhaul of my current site, from hosting to design, navigation, organization, new photos, hyperlinks and information, plus a functioning calendar of events. this will require professional help and guidance from the technical side.)
*Buying/securing a printer to start real editing of my poetry, to submit for publishing.
I have several hundred poems i have written and am ready to delve into submitting for contests, publishing and creating my own book. As a hand on person, a printer will allow me to print, edit and catalogue everything, to start this new chapter.
*Seed money to finally start recording a CD.
As a professional singer for over 25 years, and fronting 2 different bands, each for 8 years a piece (Don Tiki and Hot Club of Hulaville), it is time that I embark on my own solo music project. Funds will go towards recording, editing and paying musicians on my (untitled) project.
*Acquiring some tech tools to relaunch my Art of Life show!
I hosted my show of my own concept, the Art of Life with Willow Chang, on Think Tech Hawaii, for nearly 3 years, with over 80 episodes. i curated the guests, created the artwork, logos and conducted all the promotion and questions for interviews.
I am ready to re-launch the show, with the same commitment, enthusiasm and passion to explore artist by amplifying their message, in an extended interview format intended for deep discussions. Funds will help me purchase quality tech that will make the show professional in presentation.
Because the Rona has in decimated a lot of regular, diverse and paid opportunities for artists like myself (such as conventions, conferences, seminars, weddings, parties, gigs, artists in residence and in-person teaching), paired with the limited funds distributed to freelancers like myself, staying afloat has its' profound challenges.
However- I see solutions, and after 30 years in the arts, I’m not going to give up, but keep creating, learning, sharing and evolving!
(And, should anybody have the services that they would like to offer, or even trade, please message me.)
Mahalo and thank you for reading and for your continued support!
I'm grateful to share something that makes life a real joy.
