Willie Negron Funeral Fund

Donation protected

Hello, my name is Nigel Thompson. I am the Boys Basketball Coach at James Monroe Campus HS. I am a long time friend of Willie Negron. I’ve known him for over 20 years and I consider him to be more family than friend. Although the DOE has no such official position, Willie was our Director of Basketball Operations. He did a little bit of everything to make our program, the PSAL, and our kids look good. He took care of the officials, he swept the floor at half time, he provided water for both teams, he brought in the local media, and he coordinated with school safety and NYPD to ensure that the players had safe passage home. He played a similar role for our baseball team. He also worked at the legendary FiveStar basketball camp for many years. Additionally, over the years he organized numerous AAU teams, including the Willie Howie Allstars. He also started a semi-pro basketball team called the NY Lightening.
But  Willie was not jus about sports. He was a tireless worker at the various schools that he worked at in the James Monroe Campus. He helped to keep the halls clear and safe, made copies and did just about anything else that was required. At times it seems like his job title was to do a little bit of everything.
Willie also served as the Shop Steward for District Council 37 union (DC37), a job he took very seriously. He passionately protected the rights of his colleagues and did everything in his power to ensure that the principals adhered to the contract.

Willie was dealt a tough hand at the start of his life and he made the best of it. He has no family alive that I know of, just us. His younger brother Robert, AKA SurRob, passed away about 10 years ago. Willie scratched, begged and hustled to get him buried at Kensico in Valhalla. With your help we will also be able to bury Willie in Kensico. This fund is to provide Willie with a proper send off. It will cover the expenses of the funeral home, including the service and casket, etc and the cost for burial at Kensico in Valhalla NY.

Details of the viewing and service will be forthcoming. Thank you in advance for your donation.
