Hi, it’s Kelly, or Kentucky Kelly—as some of y’all know me. When I left my hometown of under 6,000 people with a per capita income of only $22,700, I drew on the courage, discipline, work ethic & self-confidence I developed on and off the court.
As most of you know, I LOVE my little brother and basketball. This fall, my little brother will be a junior, and his teammates need our help. So, I’m asking my friends to raise money and support disadvantaged student athletes through my alma mater’s basketball program.
Many families in and around my hometown cannot afford the costs of uniforms, shoes, or even meals after travel games. When being able to pay utility bills means making tough decisions in the grocery checkout line, opportunities like attending basketball camps are viewed as unrealistic luxuries instead of investments in your child’s future.
Ironically, some of the greatest athletes (Lebron James, Cristiano Ronaldo, Mike Tyson, Serena Williams) grew up in poverty.
The only saving grace many have to make it out of poverty and MAYBE go to college is to participate in a sport. Also, participating in sports statistically prevents kids from ending up on drugs, which has been a full epidemic in Eastern Kentucky since I was a teen.
Your generous donation will provide the essentials—shoes, uniforms, equipment and travel game meals—so these student athletes can flourish and reach their full potential, without the fear of embarrassment or worry caused by financial hardship. Your support can help these kids potentially secure college scholarships and develop the courage, discipline, work ethic & self-confidence to pursue their dreams.
Sports set me up for success in life and empowered me to be where I am today—with friends like you and being able to give back to kids who need our help now.
Thank you all so much!
for two of my greatest loves—my little brother & basketball.
