William's Miracle At Philadelphia

Donation protected
We are in need of a very small amount of funds, and/or Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards points, to reunite our family for at least part of William's upcoming treatment and recovery this holiday season.

William was born in January 2016 a happy, healthy baby. When he was 5 months old, he had a seizure out of the blue. Over the next few weeks, the frequency and intensity of his seizures increased. After several trips to the ER, and a misdiagnosis of epilepsy, William was finally diagnosed with a very rare genetic disorder called hyperinsulinism, where the body produces too much insulin, thus causing blood sugar to plummet.

After a significantly powerful seizure, William was hospitalized most of August. Toward the end of the month, with powerful medications, he started to stabilize and was released. The first few weeks out of the hospital went well, but he started to decline again in October, and got steadily worse. The fantastic doctors at Primary Children's Hospital eventually concluded that William's condition is severe enough that it is outside their ability to effectively treat him. Early in December, William and his mother Desiree were flown via medical transport from Salt Lake City, Utah to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, which has a world-renowned hyperinsulinism treatment center. This hospital has state-of-the-art equipment and the doctors have years of experience, and we are all hoping to get to the root of William's problem and hopefully see him cured through either a new line of medicines, pancreatic surgery, or both. In the event of surgery, it is likely that Desiree and William will need to remain in Philadelphia at least through next month.

William's father Jeff wants to be in Philadelphia for at least part of the treatment/surgery and/or recovery period. Desiree's other children, Katherine (9) and Theodore (2) are having a very difficult time in her absence. Theodore finds this time exceptionally difficult because he doesn't understand the concept of distance, or why Desiree or William are not at home. We are asking for funds and/or Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards points to reunite our family for at least part of William's treatment and recovery.

The funds will be used in this order:

1-Secure return airfare for Desiree and William to SLC once his treatment is complete (roughly $700)

2-Round-trip airfare for Jeff, Theodore, and Katherine to Philadelphia (roughly $2100)

3-Lodging and transportation costs (roughly $800, according to Expedia...we are looking into alternate lodgings, such as the Ronald McDonald house, which would bring the cost down)

The total cost is around $3600, but we have around $600 in credits with Southwest Airlines, and a little bit of cash on hand, bring the total we need down to $2800. Any funds not used for this goal will be put toward medical bills and prescriptions.
