Many of us have watched through Facebook updates over the past couple of months as William has gone from sick to sicker. We've tried to find ways to support their family through cards for William, meals delivered, words of love and hope. Covid makes it extra tough because we aren't able to be there in person to show our love and support. Sadly, Will shared today that William is going to be moved to Iowa City and needs a new team of doctors. Here is what will posted on Facebook:
#williamnation - quick update-
Keep the love coming everyone. William is moving to UIHC in Iowa City today. His kidney function continues to decline and it is time to involve a larger team of specialists to discuss things like dialysis and transplant.
We don’t know anything for certain about the next steps in William’s care plan, but our team here at Blank wants him to get started with those providers now. William’s doctors here have been so good to him and to us. When several of them hauled chairs into his room late yesterday, we knew we were in for a serious discussion. And the nephrologist who has been so kind and taken so much time to focus on William over the last six weeks was emotional and apologetic- clearly feeling somehow responsible when no one could have predicted how this would have gone. Now we will start over with a new team, but we’ll be staying in touch.
It's hard to imagine the toll and financial burden this is causing their family as Will and Karen want to be with William every second they can (as does the rest of William's family, but because of Covid, they are unable to visit William.) We've seen Will have to pass on new court cases and now there will be an added travel and meal expenses.
Will is always so kind and compassionate with the families he serves. He puts his whole heart into his job. Will is so quick to put others before himself and to go the extra mile for his clients, friends and family. As he and his family navigate this new medical journey with William, he is missing out on so much time at home with Amelyne and Kendra. From all of the Facebook updates we can see that William has handled his hospital stay like a trooper, but I am certain he is missing his step-parents and siblings that he is unable to see at this time as much as they are missing him. William is such a fighter and has a whole bunch of people cheering him on from afar.
Anything that can be done to make things a little easier for this family at this time is the goal. We can't fix the fact that they can't all be together while they continue to ride out this journey, but we can hopefully help financially and lessen their load.
