William Jay Maver, was born on August 25, 1952 in Newark, New Jersey. He attended Monmouth College and later joined the Peace Corps where he volunteered in Afghanistan and Ecuador. There he met his wife Anni and they married in Cuenca, Ecuador in 1977. They spent the first year of their marriage living on Orcas Island. Later, they made a home in San Francisco, California and welcomed three of their four children. They moved to Boulder Creek, California and had one more child who completed the family. They resided on a river among the redwoods until their children were grown, at which point they spent years traveling the country by van until they ultimately settled in Eugene, Oregon. Willy was a talented craftsman and woodworker who loved the intricate and artful creation of homes. But, his greatest passion in life came with raising his children. In his later years he found great joy in his role as a grandfather. He is survived by his devoted wife Anni (Mahoney), His loving children, Cairn  (Shannon) Stuart-Maver, Dylan (Erin) Maver, Leith Mahoney-Maver, and Zoë Maver, his adoring grandchildren, Sedona, Ciarán, Charlotte, Finn and Dallas, as well as his siblings Janet (Frank) Raslowsky and Alan (Barbara) Maver. He is preceded in death by his parents William and Jane Maver, his granddaughter Phoenix Rose Maver, and a number of beloved pets who were a huge source of joy in his life. He was an avid reader, a walking dictionary, an accomplished traveler, a pizza connoisseur, a lover of animals and children, and an admirer of wooden boats, who loved sailing and being on the water. One of his great dreams came true when he and Anni bought waterfront property in Coos Bay, Oregon. He passed away from heart failure at the age of 68, on March 31, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. His absence has left a gaping hole. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation, all monies will go to the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association on his behalf.
