Dr. Mariani Scholarship Fund

On June 25, 2017, Dr. William J. Mariani unexpectedly passed away following a brief illness.  Affectionately known as "Dr. Bill," Dr. Mariani served as the President of Erie Community College ("ECC") from 1997 to 2006.  Subsequent to his departure from ECC, he joined D'Youville College in 2007 and was selected as the interim president in 2016.

Dr. Bill's career was characterized by his passion for assisting students in advancing their educational prospects.  In doing so, Dr. Bill made a lasting impact on the community and his leadership and warm personality will be greatly missed.

Upon his passing, Dr. Bill's family received numerous requests from individuals who wanted to donate to charities in his name.  Dr. Bill graduated from Saint Francis High School in Athol Springs and had great affinity for the education he received there. In keeping with his legacy, the family has decided to establish a scholarship to Saint Francis in his name.  The scholarship will be awarded to an incoming student who demonstrates need  and resides in either Lackawanna, Buffalo, Silver Creek, Dunkirk or Fredonia.  Ultimately, the goal is to generate enough funds to enable the scholarship to exist in perpetuity.  The award will be distributed to a new student each year.  The funds received from this campaign will supplement donations made by Dr. Bill's family.  We thank you for your support.
