William Harvey Carney is one of the greatest American Heroes that you have probably never heard of. I Chris Wauben aka; The American Flag Running Man' am on a mission to change that. William Carney was born a slave and escaped to join the Union Army in the American Civil War. During the Battle of Fort Wagner, when the color guard was shot down, William sprung into action and grabbed the American Flag and marched forward into a hail of gunfire and cannonade. Despite being severely wounded he never let the Flag touch the ground. He was awarded the medal of honor for his bravery and gallantry. He is one of the greatest American Heroes and deserves nationwide recognized. With the funds raised I will be doing a combination of having statues of William Carney created, donating them to cities and towns, flag runs, Public Service Announcements', Film Documentaries flag running in his honor and so much more for not only William Carney but for all black heroes, teachers, police. doctors, nurses, firefighters, other black civil war heroes and so much more.
