So sad to report that William Lester, known as Billy to his schoolmates, will shortly be going from a prolonged hospital stay to his home in hospice care, with his devoted and tireless Machelle Hanyo by his side. Billy is a guy who is all heart. When my sister Kathy was ill a few years back, he took the time and effort to drop off to the house a hospital bed-type tray that was simply invaluable to us.

And that’s what friends and Bonackers do.

Finest kind.

From an Amagansett fishing family, Billy has worked on the water alongside his relatives and local baymen, continuing the proud tradition here.

But now unfortunately he’s at the place in his illness where the tide will not be turning.
