Willem's mission to music therapy
Donation protected
Help fund my journey to Anglia Ruskin University to realise my passion to become a music therapist! Experience working with people in vulnerable communities has motivated me to explore the magic and power of music and how it can help many groups of people.
I have been playing and exploring music all my life acquiring qualifications in both untuned and tuned percussion and piano with an added interest in guitar and singing.
I graduated from Leeds College of Music with a first class degree in classical percussion in 2019 with the highest mark in the year and I was presented with the Cooke-Webster prize from the Rotary Foundation in Leeds. For the past two years I have been working in a special needs school learning about this area of education. This has given me the opportunity to help communicate through music, connecting with the children in this school to develop their potential for learning.
The course at Anglia Ruskin presents the opportunity to work with groups of young people and also with groups of people such as adults with mental health issues and the elderly including diseases such as Tourette's, Parkinson's, Dementia and acquired brain injuries. I am passionate about exploring the science of music therapy building on my innate desire to help and connect with people.
I now have the fantastic opportunity to refine these artistic skills and develop my therapeutic skills to train in this field discovering new and exciting ways to connect with people through music.
The funding will help me cover expenses including the £18,000 course fee over two years and the extra £4,000 over two years for weekly psychotherapy which is required for the course. In addition I will have costs of £1500 for external supervision, travel costs of £2500 and my living costs. Therefore, I would be most grateful for every donation provided to help me progress towards success in this Masters and I will be covering my journey on my linked social media accounts including videos of me performing!
