Hi all, it’s Jamie and Tami Murach. You most likely know one or both of us. Some of you know that Jamie’s had some surgeries this year on his knee and may also know that things aren’t working out as planned. He had a knee revision surgery (basically a full knee replacement, but old equipment was removed, along with new equipment being placed). That surgery occurred January 17 of this year. We anticipated Jamie would be returning to work around April 20. He thought he was ready and managed to work one full shift and half a shift before coming home in excruciating pain the 2nd day. Well, about 9 days later, he ended up having emergency surgery because the liner in between the top and bottom of the new joint shifted an inch forward and also ended up tearing his patellar tendon. A different liner was put in and the tendon repaired. Fast forward to the end of June, and things still aren’t going well and he’s still having similar pain along with some new pain on the front of his thigh, right before the top of his scar ends. He was referred to a pain management specialist by his surgeon. We meet with that doctor on July 7 and he wants to start with injecting him with nerve blockers and if that’s 80% successful, then proceed with a procedure of burning nerve endings. On July 14, we reach out to the pain specialist and they still haven’t gotten approval from insurance for the procedures. We also meet with his surgeon’s PA. X-rays are taken and she pokes and prods his knee and agrees something isn’t right. She pulls up the X-rays just taken and we ask what she thinks is wrong. She said she won’t answer without the surgeon seeing the X-rays and seeing Jamie in person. Something is definitely up because she asks if we are available the very next day, July 15. We see the surgeon. He says he isn’t sure what the problem is, but now wants a CT scan done. The CT scan is now done and now we’re waiting. Financially, we were prepared for him to be out until May. We’ve been managing since May due to my job change and Jamie’s short-term disability insurance. We’re running into a problem though…his short-term disability insurance ends 7/20. We did not prepare nor expect we would even exhaust the short-term disability funds. We found out he does have long-term disability coverage through his employer but 1) he still has to qualify and, 2) there’s a month waiting period and the coverage wouldn’t start (we wouldn’t receive a check) until August 28. My income alone won’t cover our bills along with the medical bills that are now coming in :(. We are basically up poop creek without paddles and could really use a little help, just enough to carry us through until his long-term disability insurance begins payments. We already tried some alternatives and they weren’t feasible. We don’t like being in this position and feel awful. We are hoping some friends, some family and maybe even a stranger or two will be able to help us out of this predicament.
