Hi, I'm Elly!

I am an 8-year-old Shih Tzu x Maltese mix with a very bright and loving personality. I fully enjoy walks in the woods, tasty snacks, and I love being close to my owner all day long. We have been inseparable my entire life.

Despite my high pain tolerance, my behavior started to change about a year and a half ago. I ate less, lost weight, drank a lot of water, and had to pee frequently. After extensive medical testing, they finally found the cause: I have a heart murmur and a pheochromocytoma (a rare tumor on my adrenal medulla).

The Medical Situation

The tumor must be surgically removed. If left untreated, it will eventually produce too much adrenaline and noradrenaline, which my little heart unfortunately won't be able to handle. It is a highly complex and risky surgery because the tumor is located right next to major blood vessels. Therefore, the procedure must be performed by specialists at the University Veterinary Hospital in Utrecht (Netherlands).

The Costs

The total medical costs for this intensive treatment path are expected to reach nearly €8,000. This could end up being less, but unfortunately, it could also be more. These costs include:

* First consultation & pre-operative screening: Estimated between €1,400 and €1,700.

* Surgery and aftercare: This includes the actual complex surgery and a multi-day stay in the intensive care unit for close monitoring.

My owner has good pet insurance for me, but due to all the intensive diagnostics over the past few months, our annual budget is almost completely depleted. The remaining insurance coverage and my own savings account unfortunately only cover a small fraction. Because the remaining financial burden is far too heavy to carry alone, we are hoping to raise €6,000 through this page to fund the surgery and crucial aftercare.

That is why my owner is asking for your help.

I hesitated for a long time before starting this campaign, because I prefer to take full financial responsibility for Elly myself. Elly means everything to me. When friends ask me what the most important thing in my life is, they always hear just one thing: Elly.

Unfortunately, the medical bills at this stage are just too overwhelming. Both the remaining insurance coverage and Elly's own savings account (which was actually meant for fun day trips) are not enough for this specialized surgery.

Elly has always given me all the love a dog could possibly offer. If she has the chance to live until she's 16, I will do absolutely everything in my power to help her reach that age in good health. Sadly, I cannot do it alone this time.

Ik ben een 8-jarige Shih Tzu x Maltezer kruising met een enorm opgewekt en lief karakter. Ik geniet volop van boswandelingen, lekkere snacks en ben het liefst de hele dag dicht bij mijn baasje. Wij zijn al mijn hele leven onafscheidelijk.

Ondanks mijn hoge pijngrens begon mijn gedrag anderhalf jaar geleden te veranderen. Ik at minder, verloor gewicht, dronk opvallend veel en moest vaak plassen. Na uitgebreid medisch onderzoek is de oorzaak helaas gevonden: ik heb een hartruis én een feochromocytoom (een zeldzame tumor aan het bijniermerg).

De medische situatie

De tumor moet operatief worden verwijderd. Gebeurt dit niet, dan gaat de tumor te veel adrenaline en noradrenaline aanmaken. Dat kan mijn kleine hartje helaas niet aan. Het is een zeer complexe en risicovolle operatie omdat de tumor dicht bij grote bloedvaten ligt. Daarom moet de ingreep worden uitgevoerd door specialisten van het Universitair Dierenziekenhuis in Utrecht.

De totale medische kosten voor dit intensieve traject gaan naar verwachting oplopen tot bijna € 8.000,-.

Dit kan minder worden, maar helaas ook meer.

Deze kosten zijn opgebouwd uit:

* Eerste consult & pre-operatieve screening: Geschat tussen de € 1.400,- en € 1.700,-.

* De operatie en nazorg: Hierna volgt de daadwerkelijke, complexe operatie en een intensive care-opname van enkele dagen ter monitoring.

Mijn baasje heeft een goede zorgverzekering voor mij, maar door alle intensieve vooronderzoeken van de afgelopen tijd is het jaarlijkse budget bijna volledig verbruikt. De resterende vergoeding en mijn eigen spaarpotje dekken helaas slechts een klein deel. Omdat het resterende bedrag veel te groot is om alleen te dragen, hopen we via deze weg € 6.000,- op te halen om de operatie en nazorg te kunnen bekostigen

Lieve mensen,

Ik heb lang getwijfeld om deze actie te starten, omdat ik de zorg voor Elly het liefst volledig zelf draag. Elly betekent alles voor mij. Als vrienden mij vragen wat het belangrijkste is in mijn leven, horen ze altijd maar één ding: Elly.

Helaas zijn de medische kosten in dit stadium te groot. Zowel de resterende verzekeringsdekking als Elly's eigen spaarpotje (dat eigenlijk bedoeld was voor leuke uitjes) zijn niet toereikend voor deze specialistische ingreep.

Elly heeft mij altijd alle liefde gegeven die een hond maar te bieden heeft. Als zij 16 kan worden, zal ik er alles aan doen om haar die leeftijd gezond te laten bereiken. Helaas lukt het mij dit keer niet alleen.
