Hello friends,

My name is Ella. This summer I have had the privilege of volunteering in Zambia, Livingstone for 6 weeks with IVHQ volunteering programme at a primary school named the Will Christian School. Not only is the school full of love, light a laughter- but also kind children with beautiful souls and a hunger for learning, a true testament to their strength and character.

Over the month I have spent here, I have come to realise the children have taught me more than I could ever teach them. The teachers are also incredible and nothing short of extraordinary -having created a school that is brimming with intelligent children with so much potential and talent, where they carefully nurture each child’s dream, despite having limited resources.

I have been fortunate to play a small role in the school, of a much larger mosaic of aid provided by past volunteers. It has been a beautiful thing to witness, during this time I have been able to observe the lasting impact on the school, from book donations filling the school library- enhancing the children’s learning and access to educational sources. A precious moment which remains embedded in my memory would be watching the excitement the children exude at the mere mention of reading, which is magical.

The paintings and personalised murals created and left behind from volunteers across the world also leave a story which remains embedded in the walls of the school. They are a symbol of unity and hope. Reminding me that no small act of kindness is ever wasted.

Due to the length of time I have been in Zambia, it has allowed me to form personal and deep connections with the children, despite the language barrier. Where actions and smiles speak much louder than words ever could. Each child with their own story and background - and you find yourself wishing with all your heart that every one of their dreams come true.

Through this GoFundMe page I hope to raise money to support the school in ways which help is needed most. One major struggle includes finishing the classrooms which has been delayed due to lack of funding. Alongside notebooks, pencils and whiteboard pens and rubbers. Which are very difficult to come by and expensive in Zambia.
