2019 Will Barrow Memorial Fundraiser

Donation protected
In honor of National Suicide Prevention Week,  the Virginia Men’s Lacrosse Team is proud to announce the beginning of our 10th annual Will Barrow Memorial Fundraiser. Originally created in 2009 by Max Pomper, a former teammate of Will’s, this fundraiser allows our program to honor Will’s life and celebrate his memory. The 2019 Will Barrow Fundraiser will benefit two meaningful organizations in honor of Will’s Legacy:

The UVA-Charlottesville Helpline

The UVA Helpline, (434)-295-TALK,  is an anonymous, confidential telephone service that provides callers in the Charlottesville community with an empathetic ear for any issue during difficult times and guide them towards long term services. This year, we look forward to continuing to raising awareness regarding suicide prevention and offer a full year of funding to the UVA Helpline, which has provided an invaluable resource for individuals battling mental health issues within our community.

Harlem Lacrosse: ‘Will Barrow-Harlem Lacrosse Awards’

Following the tremendous success of this fundraiser in years past, in 2018 we were thrilled to establish the first ever ‘Will Barrow-Harlem Lacrosse Awards'.  We can think of no better way to honor Will’s memory than by opening doors and providing educational equity a new generation of talented and determined middle-schoolers who embody Will’s passion, loyalty, and commitment. Just as our Virginia program is composed of players from across the country, this year we would like to spread the impact of Will’s legacy nationwide and establish at least six total awards for both male and female Harlem Lacrosse participants across the country.

The heart of this fundraiser has always been the Will Barrow Flag Football Tournament, which gathers members of the lacrosse community from schools around the country to Charlottesville one weekend in November for a flag football competition. This year the tournament will be hosted on Lambeth Field on Saturday, November 16th.

We are offering a handful of opportunities in which you can contribute to our efforts. The first $5,000 of our fundraising will be directed to the UVA Helpline, and then the remaining funds will be used for our Will Barrow Awards to provide middle-school students with academic support. You have the option to participate as an individual donor here at our GoFundMe page, or anyone wishing to function as a corporate sponsor or large donor through a 501(3)(c) fully tax deductible donation can email us at [email redacted] .

An old African proverb says: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” We look forward to embarking on this unified and meaningful effort with you all, and deeply appreciate your kindness and generosity. Help honor Will’s legacy by supporting individuals struggling with mental health issues and giving young, determined students the chance to follow their dreams and achieve an education!

Thank you from all of us at UVA Lacrosse!
