The Wildsmiths Go to Oxford!
INTRO
My name is Tim Wildsmith, and I created this GoFundMe to help me and my wife, Becca, fund a semester of study at the University of Oxford.
Last year one of my professors at Fuller Theological Seminary encouraged me to apply for a fellowship that offers graduating students an opportunity to broaden their cultural experience through travel study abroad. I went through the application process, and earlier this year I was accepted into the Visiting Scholar program at Wycliffe Hall, the evangelical college at the heart of Oxford.
WHY WE ARE RAISING MONEY
I originally applied to be a Visiting Scholar at Oxford as part of a fellowship through Fuller Theological Seminary that would have fully funded this time studying abroad and paid me a stipend as well.
And then COVID-19 happened.
Just a few days after I received the offer letter from Oxford, I learned that the funding for the fellowship had been cancelled due to the pandemic.
Becca and I spent months thinking and praying about what we should do and discussing it with family and friends. In the end, this felt like an opportunity that was too good to pass up, even if we had to fund it ourselves. Many of those same family and friends encouraged us to do something like a GoFundMe to help us make up for the funding that was cancelled because of COVID-19.
So here we are... inviting you to make a donation that will help us cover the cost of studying at Oxford this fall, including university fees as well as housing and travel expenses.
Every little bit helps, so thank you for your support.
A SPECIAL GIFT
As a thank you, anyone who donates $100 or more will receive a limited edition print of Becca's painting called "Seasons" (pictured below).
VISITING SCHOLAR
As a Visiting Scholar at Wycliffe Hall, the evangelical college at the heart of Oxford, I will be focusing my studies on biblical interpretation and theological hermeneutics in order to enrich my own future pastoral ministry. I will also be doing research for a book I am writing inspired by my studies at Fuller Theological Seminary.
