HELP ANDREA LIVE ONLY ON WILD FOOD FOR 12 WEEKS microbiome 2

Please Support My Wild Food Journey & Gut Microbiome Research

My name is Andrea, keen forager, educator and complementary therapist taking part in the Wildbiome 2 project in 2025.

I’m embarking on an extraordinary journey—living entirely off wild food for 12 weeks from April - June 2025! That means foraging only edible plants, fungi, flowers, and sourcing only wild fish and wild meat.

I’ll be foraging daily, preparing dishes made from wild food & recording everything I eat & how I’m experiencing the challenge.

But I need your help to make this possible.

Your donations, no matter how small, will go towards:
✅ Scientific testing to assess the impact of this diet on my gut microbiome
✅ Sourcing and preserving wild food to sustain this experiment
✅ Sharing my findings to inspire and educate others about reconnecting with nature

You can donate funds or even contribute wild food if you have access to it. I’ve been a vegetarian for decades but recently started eating fish & I am under no illusion that in order to survive I’ll need to potentially include eating wild meat. This means learning so many new skills & overcoming fears too. I want to try and avoid eating meat and stick to wild fish!!!!

I’m currently foraging as much I can in order to prepare squirrelling away wild fungi, drying seaweeds & creating concoctions from seasonal wild foods.

I am apprehensive about starting but trying not to overthink it, this will be such a test of my willpower, especially given I live with my family who won’t be taking part.

I would be over the moon to receive your support and contribution towards the project however small they will all add up to make it possible for me to take part. Every bit of support counts whether it’s the price of a cuppa or even corporate sponsorship.

Thank you for being part of this adventure & please follow for updates.

Best wishes Andrea

INFO & BACKGROUND TO THE MICROBIOME RESEARCH PROJECT 2

In lockdown, Mo Wilde lived entirely off wild food for one year and it had a profound effect on her health. She published her book the wilderness cure detailing the challenges she faced and In 2023 ran a citizen science study of 24 fellow members of the association of foragers living only on wild food.

They were monitored against a reference control of 24 people eating normal shop-bought food. The aim was to discover “If you are what you eat, what happens when you add something wild?”. The results were significant and this has led to a research project led by Bradford University.

“Sadly, scientific testing doesn’t come cheap and we need your help to fund further tests for 2025 participants. These help us assess the impact on microbiome composition and key health parameters of people eating an exclusively wild food diet. We are committed to publishing peer-reviewed results in an open-source academic journal (2023 under peer review at the moment), so that many more people can benefit from our insights. This all costs money even though all the volunteers are doing this for free.

Your donation will help this unique opportunity to track the impact of a foraged diet. This study is important as it will make a huge contribution to what we know about the indigenous western human gut microbiome and how significant the loss of wild foods might be for our diet”
