Wildlife Signage Campaign
Donation protected
Exciting Announcement As some of you may remember back in February 2023, we put up a post regarding a number of koalas that were hit and killed on a stretch of road through Koonoomoo between the Mobil Roadhouse and the Tocumwal Bends. This post got a lot of attention.
Due to a lot of hard work from our volunteers, we have finally been granted permission to install new Wildlife signage along this treacherous stretch of road. It has been a long process, but we would like to thank VicRoads and Moira Shire Council for working with us and granting us permission to trial these new signs for a 12 month period which we hope will make people more aware of the wildlife moving in this area at certain times of the year and reduce Wildlife deaths overall.
Since that post, Dutch Thunder Wildlife Rescue volunteers have attended to over 60 rescues along this highway.
As there is no funding available for this signage trial Dutch Thunder is having to cover the costs of the signs to be made as well as the brackets to fix them to the poles which are being supplied and installed by Moira Shire.
We have been lucky enough that the guys from the The Sign Society in Cobram who have printed the signs have sponsored one sign by covering the full costs and Brad Campbell from BMC Welding has also donated towards the material costs of the brackets.
If you or your business would like to donate towards or cover, the full cost of a sign that would be fantastic. You can donate directly to:

Or donations can be made through our GoFundMe Wildlife Signage Campaign.
We are hoping the signs will be installed by the shire as soon as possible so keep your eye out.
The idea behind the signs are that they are seasonal so these particular ones alert people to the increase of Koala activity at this time of year due to their breeding season and extreme weather events. We are hoping by changing these signs on a regular basis people will notice them more and be aware of potential Wildlife in the area.
We would love to hear your feedback and thoughts and are open to any other suggested areas for the signs.
