Wildlife Shelter Laundry Upgrade
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Sam. I am a volunteer wildlife carer and I am fundraising to upgrade my volunteer wildlife rehabilitation and orphanage shelter laundry facilities.
I have been doing wildlife care now for over 18 months. I have had many species of animals in care during this time ranging from species of birds (such as birds of prey, parrots species, owls, magpies, cuckoos); kangaroo joeys; lizards; wombat joeys and currently many grey headed flying fox pups (pictured above)- just to name a few.
I desperately need to purchase two new heavy duty washing machines.
Unfortunately, the existing washing machine I have is broken beyond repair after being utilised doing about 6-8 loads of washing a day for the past 3 months straight.
I have tried utilising second hand donated washing machines, however these do not meet the requirements I currently need to maintain in terms of laundry to ensure I have a clean and hygienic wildlife care facility. That and when I collect and then have to dispose of these at the local tip, there is often a fee and cost involved that has been a bit of a waste of money.
I have been reluctant to fundraise previously because there is lots of other wildlife shelters in my area and across the state that take in much higher numbers of animals then I do, however it has now become an untenable situation if I do not fundraise.
Any assistance towards my donation goal will greatly help.
I have found 2 washing machines (10kg load weight) that are approx $998 dollars each so would like to purchase two of these and a new dryer as similarly the dryer I have is barely able to keep up with my current laundry requirements- so on days when it is rainy or cloudy, my dryer overheats causing power outages to my property.
Your donation will ensure that I am able to continue to maintain high levels of good hygiene which will help the animals I have in care avoid preventable bacterial and fungal infections which is absolutely vital for orphaned animals and a basic requirement of animal husbandry.
Wildlife rescue and rehabilitation in Australia is entirely self-funded. Some organisation's and charities provide grants at different times of the year, however I am not able to wait until the next small grant round (usually a maximum of $750 is able to be applied for, mostly for food stuffs).
I have spent many many $1000s of dollars to hand rear animals for eventual release back to the wild.
I have been doing this work which I am good at and enjoy, on an entirely self funded basis relying on savings for a good long while now.
My days usually start at 6am and involve incredible amounts of cleaning and other chores for animals right through till midnight day in and day out.
I hope to continue doing this work for a long time and the success of this fundraising campaign will ultimately aide in me helping more and more animals.
Many thanks.
Sam.
