Uganda is in the middle of a poaching crisis. Uganda Conservation Foundation has asked us for help. By raising the profile of its stunning national parks and to create media around the poaching crisis that's presently going on. We need to raise funds to help keep rangers on the groud, and to keep wildlife wild. Any support right now, is really appreciated.
"We were hoping for 2025 would be a smooth and uneventful year - everyone here was exhausted by the end of 2024. And well, how wrong we were. The levels of poaching and illegal wildlife trade have been extreme - and we now face plans and budgets for Murchison Falls being dismantled and decimated. Incredible amounts of time and effort go into grants, and once awarded and underway, we are finally able to counter the poaching and illegal wildlife trade...... and then not.
Investigations into pangolin trading have been stopped, responses to poaching incidents stopped, and progress to prevent elephant crop raiding and lion / livestock conflict are left exposed. Snares, such as seen in Snare Mountain - are increasing, killing and damaging wildlife - heartbreaking for the dedicated teams who have worked so hard over covid and afterwards to manage the protected areas carefully.
We've lost 30% of our budgets, whilst the need and demands on us have continued to rise exponentially. There is only so much we can do - we are losing and can't respond.
None of the challenges of the past five years have anything to do with the park - poaching and us - simply the incredibly disruptive environment we are expected to work in, from COVID, flooding of the Nile, Ebola, rebel activity, changes in US policy and grant agreements", According to Michael Keigwin, CEO of Uganda Conservation Foundation.
