Wildlife Guide School for Robert Kiok
Donation protected
Robert needs a hand up! My friend Robert is a Maasai warrior living in the Maasai Mara in rural Kenya. I met Robert during a "Passion to Heal" medical service trip to Kenya in which he was a hospital translator. Long before us meeting, he left the traditional Maasai subsistence lifestyle of raising cattle and went to school. Wanting to dedicate his life to sharing the Maasai ways and elevating life for his community, he joined the volunteer tourism company ME to WE. That is where we met. Unfortunately, the volunteer tourism industry, and all tourism in Kenya has fallen under hard times due to COVID 19. Since then Robert has struggled to make ends meet for himself, spouse, and 3 children.
Meanwhile struggling, Robert has been accepted to Koiyaaki Guiding Schools where he will learn to lead wildlife safaris with a "Holistic approach to conservation" and " to create a mutualistic relationship between man and animals filled with respect, love, and appreciation." In short, Robert would like to become a safari guide in order to continue his legacy of support for the Maasai community as well as the wildlife around which he has grown up.
Such education would also qualify him for some of the most coveted employment in the region. This is why I enlisted to help him. This is a "hand up" not a "hand out." Your help will have lasting meaning. Not only will your act of kindness solve an immediate problem, it will pay dividends in the future: because kinship networks in this community are so strong and enduring, your help will raise multitudes of people, potentially for generations.
Let's help Robert secure the opportunity of a lifetime! Your help will buoy him, his family, the wildlife, and the Maasai world at large. We are looking to raise $2400 for tuition at Koiyaaki Guiding Schools. School starts in November 2020, but the sooner we have the funds, the sooner he can secure his spot. Robert has shown how appreciative he is for our consideration, imagine his joy and appreciation when we enable him to take this next step!
