Hi, my name is Karen.
Every year, more than 100,000 sick, injured or orphaned native Australian birds and animals need help. That help comes from dedicated volunteers that work round the clock. We all know these people - they come when we call, day or night - and do this for nothing more than their love of the animals. One such carer is a good friend of mine.
Right now, many of the volunteer wildlife carers who do this wonderful work are facing a legal battle to stop a well-known wildlife charity - their own organisation - from removing them as members. This charity recently adopted a new constitution which disenfranchises nearly 1,000 volunteers who will no longer be able to hold positions of responsibility, attend meetings or have an all-important vote at any upcoming AGM.
The volunteer members also want to ensure the millions donated to this charity in the 2020 Black Summer bushfires are spent how and where they were intended - for the wildlife and the volunteers on the ground doing the daily care. Millions of our native wildlife were lost in unprecedented and catastrophic bushfires, and the affected areas are still not recovered. Recent media articles^ claim these donations remain largely unspent.
Please show your support for these dedicated wildlife carers who are trying to ensure the focus of this organisation - and the bushfire donations - is always wildlife rescue and rehabilitation. All donations are welcome to help pay these necessary legal fees. The future of wildlife rehabilitation may be at stake.
