Wildlife Café

COVID-19 brought my life, like so many others', to a full stop.  I had been working as a clinical chaplain at a local hospital in downtown Los Angeles where I visited the sick, the dying and their families.  Given the liability of COVID to myself, my loved ones and to the patients, in person visits were no longer possible.  Like everyone else I was confined to my home.

But as the weeks wore on, my heart kept going out, as it did with patients and their families.  Arms spread wide to the width and breadth of the Universe, I asked, "How am I to Love?"  "Who am I to Love?"

In answer to my pleas, creatures from the woods where I live started to arrive.  Seeking food and water...and Love.  Deer, birds, a skunk, squirrels, mice, all formed what I call The Wildlife Café.

It is very hot and dry where I live and normal food evaporates along with the water as Summer wears on.  I live on the side of a horse ranch where these critters often go and sneak what food they can from the horses.  What I have done is provided a safe haven for them, supplying water and only what they would be eating anyway -- if they can get it, but in a safe and loving environment, hence the "Wildlife Café".

Unemployed, over 60, and barely covering my own expenses, the food bill for my furry community is hitting $300 p month.  That is what I am seeking to fund, so that I can continue to offer them the grains, grasses, water, carrots, good nutrition... they so enjoy.  I also rescue domestic animals and provide meals for the "homeless" working closely with local city animal shelters.  No food goes to waste!

Like in the Wild, Wild West of old, where a nickle would buy you a "yarn" around a fire at a campsite, for every donation, I will "spin" a thread on the wonderful characters from my Wildlife Café:

CAST OF CHARACTERS:
