Wildfire recovery: WGIFS calls for donations
Donation protected
The Working Group on Indigenous Food Sovereignty (WGIFS) is calling for donations to recover and rebuild Indigenous foods and infrastructure and equipment that our team members lost to the fire via this GoFundMe. We estimate that our team members have lost anywhere between $75,000 - $100,000 worth of food-related equipment, infrastructure, and supplies.
Any additional funds will be used in support of any further infrastructure needed in the community.
Amidst the collective and compounding grief associated with the catastrophic wildfire burning over 40,000 hectares of Secwepemc foodlands, members of the Secwepemc Chapter of the WGIFS are working together in a network of community caring and sharing to recover and rebuild. Having lost critical food-related infrastructure and equipment (including community freezers of salmon, bison, and elk meat; hunting camp equipment; processing and cooking equipment, etc.) when the fire ravaged through Little Shuswap reserve, the WGIFS sees the long road ahead in addressing the critical issue of climate justice.
