Wildfire Rebuild - White Gull Outfitters Northern SASK

Hi, my name is Darrell Wallace, and I live in Swift Current, SK. I have always loved anything outdoors, especially hunting and fishing; my son and I share this interest and found a hidden gem in our home province of SK a few years ago where we could enjoy nature, decompress, and make memories....that place was White Gull Outfitters.

We quickly became friends with the lead operator, Darren, and his entire crew.

We are devastated by the extreme loss of their business, passion and livelihood of their bear camp due to the wildfires in Northern Saskatchewan.

Darren Sochaski is the main operator and guide of White Gull Outfitters.

Since 2020 Darren has been operating White Gull and has many challenges!

COVID-19 was a hard time for him, as he caters to many US hunters and COVID basically closed the door as many hunters were not coming across the border. But with hunting as his passion, his life, he forged forward!

Now, the bear camp is gone, the wildfires have wiped it out.

The camp was not insurable!

You might say “why not?” – Good question, because of the camps location, it was too far from a large source of water and too far from a fire hall.

On the property, there was a cabin where Darren slept, a kitchen/dining area where he welcomed his guests - “hunters” every morning to a great breakfast and of course a cup of coffee! A warm and inviting wood stove was the perfect spot for the cool evenings! The bunk house housed his clients, and again, a warm and inviting wood stove to make your nights cozy!

A shower house where you could enjoy a nice hot shower! it was a rustic camp – but warm and inviting, a place where many hunters enjoyed and some who were frequent visitors!

Darren’s hospitality was heartwarming, and his love for the camp and for his visitors was addictive!

We are wanting to help Darren out, there will be many more challenges ahead, as the fire was devastating.
