Farms Damaged by Hāmākua Wildfire Need Your Kokua
Donation protected
Aloha,
I am hosting this fundraiser on behalf of two kupunahine (grandmother)–run farms on the Hāmākua Coast, owned and cared for by Cynthia and Susan, that were devastated by the recent Slaughterhouse Fire in Pa‘auilo. Each farm grows and sells a variety of native trees, fresh produce, and cacti for our community and to aid in reforestation efforts.
Between Thursday and Saturday, flames and bulldozers cut through the Pa‘auilo–Lower Kalopa area, destroying fences, melting thousands of feet of irrigation lines, and damaging farm roads. Much was saved thanks to our firefighters who did an amazing job, and we are all deeply grateful for how much they were able to save from devastation, but years of work were set back in an instant. Without fences, crops and orchards are at risk from roaming animals. Without irrigation, the plants cannot survive.
Your kokua (help) will go directly toward rebuilding essential farm infrastructure: restoring water to the orchards, replacing fences, and repairing damaged roads; helping keep fresh food on local tables and continuing the care of the ‘āina.
Mahalo nui loa for your support.
