Wildbiome Project 2 What's the impact of wild food on humans

Donation protected
Hi, My name is Emma,

I am a forager from Staffordshire/Shropshire border.

If we are what we eat, what happens if you only eat wild food? Let's see!
I've just volunteered to only eat wild food for 3 months from April 1st (no this isn't an April Fools joke! lol) to the end June 2025. From now until then I am foraging & squirreling away wild food to support this diverse wild diet. It is a little daunting! If you have any nuts, chestnuts & berries spare, please throw them this way!

The Wildbiome Project is coordinated by expert forager and academic Monica Wilde, author of "The Wilderness Cure", and will be researched by the Universities of Bradford and Rzeszów. Using state of the art Medichecks researchers will assess the health of our gut microbiome, blood sugar, liver, kidneys, hormones, vitamins and minerals to give a better picture of how health markers change with the transition to a hunter-gatherer diet. This will help inform research into mesolithic diets of the past, as well as aid understanding into the health benefits and food security implications of wild food for the future.
For me, to be a part of this research is important to me and this is an amazing opportunity to really explore our landscapes and be part of this wonderful foraging community working together, broaden the wild food we consume and how to create food from it, feel the effects on my body, maybe remove hormonal headaches? Adhd symptoms? Who knows? Alter the gut microbiome?

There are 170 participants in this years project. Some participating in 1 or 3 months cohorts. For all of these tests the cost for each of us is £680. We're starting fundraising from now so that all funds can be available to the organisers to order tests ahead of the April start date. Anything raised in excess of the £680 here will be used for other participants who might not manage to raise the full amount.

If this interests you, last year 24 foragers participated in the Wildbiome Project 1

And this Wildbiome Project 2 will be shared by Dan Saladino in BBC Radio 4’s The Food Program later in 2025 as well as in a documentary film.

If you can spare the cost of a coffee (like the coffee I won't be drinking for 3 months!) or anything more you can afford I would be so grateful,

I will share my journey on instagram as wild.pickle
Thank you very much, I appreciate your support,

Emma Cronin
