The impact of the coronavirus outbreak, the harassment of black birder, Christian Cooper, and BLM protests following George Floyd's murdered have brought attention to nature-related health disparities and discrimination in the environmental field.
For many black people, the environmental field hasn't felt welcoming, black people are very under-represented as participants, but even more so as leaders.
We are raising funds to support our Nature Guides programme, training people of colour to lead in nature. Wild in the City is a black-led therapeutically grounded organisation, offering hikes and experiences in woodland living skills, natural history and ecotherapy.
We're building a community of people of colour who gather in nature for fun, to learn and feel good. Our work creates leadership opportunities by giving space to voices less heard and training people of colour as Nature Guides.
· reinstate the oral tradition for learning about nature
· provide knowledge and practical skills for living within nature
· offer trauma-informed community healing
· nurture intimacy in relationships with people and nature
We need your support to help bring positive change to the landscape of provision within the environmental field and create more opportunities to enjoy wild open spaces and support well-being.
